Sony, the studio owners of Spider-Man have announced that they wish to release a Superheroine movie in 2017. They intend it to fall into the Spider-Man universe that they are currently attempting to build on with The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 already released and a third and possibly fourth in the pipeline.
Sony are obviously attempting to create their own version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that is working so well at Disney. However, with the MCU studio head, Kevin Feige, stating as recently as Monday that they will not be releasing a female-lead superhero film in the near future, Sony have seemingly decided to up their game and get in there first by announcing the news.
Speculation will be rife as to who the possibilities for the Superheroine could be, with Silver Sable and Spider-Woman the potential front-runners. Then there is also Black Cat, who was alluded to in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Felicity Jones playing the role of Norman and Harry Osborn’s assistant, Felicia Hardy.
Filling out the rest of the Spidey-universe, Sony currently has Drew Goddard gearing up for the Sinister Six film in 2016 and a Venom film floating in development looking for a director.
