Gordon has a more comedy-based background, directing Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief in recent years. He did break onto the scene with the brilliant video game documentary The King of Kong though, so producers have seemingly seen something in him to draw them to the Uncharted team.
In fact, it has been in development hell for a few years now with various directors coming and going since 2009 when the idea first sprung to mind to adapt Drake’s Fortune. The biggest name was recent Oscar botherer David O. Russell who in 2010 was signed on to direct with his main man of the time, Mark Wahlberg down to play Drake himself. However, with the production going quiet for the next year or so, Russell eventually left the project. Neil Burger was also in line for the chair, but went on to direct Divergent instead.
Therefore Gordon has now been brought on board with a script re-written by Safe House’s David Guggenheim, hopefully Drake will actually get a chance to show us that he can still track down lost treasure with the best of them. Plus it won’t take much to beat the similarly themed Tomb Raider movies of yesteryear.
