Recent blockbuster, Noah, has sparked a storm of controversy due to the lack of diversity in the all-white cast.
The production team have faced criticism over their decision to leave the tale devoid of anyone slightly coloured, which has been branded as racist by many critics. The film starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson was released in the UK this month and has already seen great takings in the cinema. It has already been banned in some countries such as Qatar and Indonesia.
Despite the controversy, Ari Handel, one of the writers, has defended the lack of coloured people in the film.
He said: “The race of individuals doesn’t matter.” He continued, explaining that they didn’t consider race as a factor due to the mythical setting. “You either try to put everything in there, which just calls attention to it, or you just say, ‘let’s make that not a factor, because we’re trying to deal with everyman‘.”
