Rumors are spreading that open casting for the lead roles in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Wars film is to begin this week. Producers are looking for a street smart and strong orphaned girl in her late teens and a smart capable man in his late teens or early 20s.
The open auditions for a “major Hollywood Movie” were first published on the twitter account @UKopencall, which announced a “nationwide search for lead roles for a Disney movie“. The broad descriptions of the characters are almost the same as descriptions leaked earlier in the year when the overall casting process began, leading people to believe it is for the franchise film.
While it is odd for a film of this stature to hold open casting for its lead roles, it was the first of the saga that started it all off. ‘A New Hope‘ found newcomer Mark Hamill through open casting who became the world famous Luke Skywalker.
Auditions are being held all over the UK and Ireland but start in Bristol on the 9th of November. Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to begin shooting at Pinewood Studios in spring 2014, for an expected 2015 release.
