Two weeks ago the news broke that the hottest directing duo in Hollywood at the moment, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, would be directing the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3. Unfortunately though for everyone involved, rumours have been circulating that they have in fact now passed on the project.
Ghostbusters 3 has been in development limbo since the 90’s with both Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray committing and then leaving the project multiple times throughout the years. Late in 2013 though, the script was confirmed to be almost finished by Akyroyd and so the search for a director had begun. Consequently came the news in March that Lord and Miller were interested and then yesterday they were out of the frame altogether.
With the film deemed a bit too risky for the duo, its understandable that they don’t want a potential flop on their hands this early into their already thriving career. Having helmed Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie in the last couple of years, they have an impressive back catalogue. 22 Jump Street is also due out later on this year.
So with no director and the sad news of writer and star of the first two movies, Harold Ramis’ death in February, will this see G3 be put back on the shelf again for another decade?
