Given the Coen Brothers’ prowess within Hollywood, they are able to pick their casts at will, often creating ones that other directors can only dream of. With their latest film, Hail Caesar!, this has once again been demonstrated with Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes in negotiations to join a cast already boasting George Clooney and Josh Brolin.
It certainly is an incredible wealth of talent on display and with the plot also recently announced, we can begin to join the dots as to who will be playing who in the film based on former MGM vice-president, Eddie Mannix.
Mannix began life as a private eye in Hollywood, digging up dirt on budding actors and actresses and generally keeping them in line within the confines of the various movie sets in the 1950’s. The film appears to be focusing on this early part of Mannix’s life and so expect lots of references to studios and films of that time.
Most of the cast are big hitters and have collaborated with the Joel and Ethan before, but for Tatum, whose career is certainly on the up, this will be the first time that he has worked with the brothers.
