Leonardo DiCaprio has been linked to pretty much every project under the sun over the last few years given his recent performances, but he has finally chosen his next film, The Revenant, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Way back in 2011, DiCaprio and Sean Penn were linked to the film that Iñárritu and Mark L. Smith had adapted from Michael Punke’s novel and now, 3 years later he has officially signed on to star.
The movie will feature DiCaprio as Hugh Glass, a hunter who goes on a fur-hunting expedition in 1820 and ends up getting mauled by his prey and left for dead by his fellow colleagues. To make things worse, he then gets robbed by two men who are tasked with burying what they assume will be his dead body and so he swears revenge on them. Penn was previously tied in to play one of the thieves, but has now backed out to direct his next film.
Expect to see this in autumn of next year, with Iñárritu planning to start shooting this September, now that his leading man is on board.
