Kodi Smit-McPhee Joins ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’

Who is this kid? And what’s he doing in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ sequel? This and the scoop on the plot is all revealed here!

Kodi Smit-McPhee has been cast as the lead role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Never heard of him?  Well, with a name like that it might be surprising, but you might recognise the baby-faced 16 year-old from films The Road or Let Me In.

Jason Clarke, from Zero Dark Thirty, has also joined the bill, with news spreading finally what the plot may hold.  The film is believed to be set fifteen years after the first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which starred James Franco, who is unlikely to return to the sequel after director Rupert Wyatt left due to ‘creative differences‘.  Andy Serkis, who played rebel leader chimp Caesar, however will be returning.

The story will follow a group of scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco.  Focus will also be on Caesar’s battle to maintain his dominance over his kingdom, which he conquered with fellow apekind, over a decade ago.

Matt Reeves has taken over directing since Wyatt’s departure and has worked with Smith-McPhee before in Let Me In.  He also helmed Cloverfield, but perhaps we shouldn’t go there.

Shooting is due to start in spring and a release date has already been set for 23 May 2014.
