Legendary Pictures made an awful lot of film announcements at Comic-Con over the weekend, but one of the major surprises was that they intend to film a prequel to 2005’s King Kong, entitled Skull Island. They appear to have also chosen their man behind the camera, with Joe Cornish being heavily linked with the gig.
Skull Island is the Island that King Kong lives on and is where Jack Black and co. head to in the Peter Jackson movie. It was also featured in several of the original Kong movies as well, including the classic 1962 film, King Kong VS. Godzilla. Interestingly this ties in with another bit of news that Legendary revealed, that a cross-over between Godzilla and King Kong was in the pipeline following the success of Gareth Edwards effort earlier on in the year.
Cornish has been linked to several high-profile gigs since his debut, Attack The Block in 2011, but he hasn’t yet actually signed on to any of them. Films like this don’t come along every day though and so hopefully he will come on board.
