Guillermo Del Toro has confirmed that he is currently working on a script for a sequel to his hit movie from last year, Pacific Rim.
The first film was almost a thinking man’s version of Transformers(not hard to do) and was a homage to his love of Japanese Kaiju’s. With Del Toro being from a horror background, not much was expected from it, but it blew everyone away with its Robots vs Monsters action.
Earlier on this year, rumours circulated that a prequel was in the works, but Del Toro has quashed this and has instead confirmed that he is working on a sequel.
Speaking recently, he said: “I’m working very, very hard with Zak Penn. We’ve been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around. Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel but I was never interested in doing that first wave of invasion.”
When asked whether the size of the film will be able to rival the first, he continued: “I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one – but you will get really great spectacle.”
Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi’s characters have been confirmed to be returning.
