Divergent the New Hunger Games?

Is the new ‘Divergent’ just a rip off of ‘The Hunger Games’?

DIVERGENT

From Entertainment One and Lionsgate comes a new dystopian Sci-Fi. In the midst of films like ‘The Hunger Games‘ and ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, EOne are throwing their own young heroine into the pot in the hopes of coming out on top.

In yet another book series adaption, we’ll see Shailene Woodley bring ‘Divergent‘ girl Friday Tris to life. This stunning visual feast of future anarchy is sure to give all the front runners a run for their money, if not on the screen, in the courtroom.

Divergent is the adaption of the 2011 novel by Veronica Roth. Not to be confused with the 2008 Suzanne Collins novel The Hunger Games wich not only feature similar settings and characters but similar book covers.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman says they are totally different, honest. In Divergent “the society is different,” he says. Hunger Games “is about the society that’s striving for survival” while Divergent “is about the way a society is surviving with distinct personalities and how those personalities interweave with each other.” The fact that he’s even had to make these comments makes the whole thing seem a bit flimsy.

Joining the young lead will be a cast of well known and new faces. Kate Winslett and Maggie Q will star as powerful authority while the youngsters will strive to break out of the system they are caught up in. Tris’ right hand man and mentor is played by British actor Theo James. If you recognise him from the video but can’t quite place him, like we did, he played James in the ‘Inbetweeners Movie’. The dick head that stole Simon’s girlfriend.

A new role for James, he and his American accent seem to work well as does the rest of the film. Releasing in April 2014, it will be one to keep an eye on if only to see if Rob Friedman was talking bullocks. Check out the video below for an understanding on how the future world of ‘Divergent’ works.
