It seems that those evil characters Disney created were not so evil after all. Maleficent, the live action film starring Angelina Jolie, focuses on the misunderstood antagonist in Sleeping Beauty, and her reasons for wanting to kill an innocent.
But Maleficent is not the only “wicked” character that is getting a positive reboot… 101 Dalmatians’ pup stealer Cruella De Vil will be getting her own film!
We know what you are thinking: how can a woman who wants to skin a load of puppies for the sake of fashion be misunderstood? Unfortunately, we do not know a lot regarding the narrative of the film, but our guess is that Disney wants us to believe De Vil’s acts were in the best interests of everyone involved. Somehow we can’t believe that!
Dodie Smith’s original novel has had a few brilliant makeovers, with Disney’s ‘toon in 1961 and Glenn Close’s live action portrayal of the mad fashionista in 1996. However, Cruella will be the first film that actually focuses on the consciousness of the creepy character. Will Glenn Close reprise? Probably not, but the talented actress is connected to the project as producer!
Cruella is still in pre-production but Maleficent will grace our screens May next year!
