UHHH UHHHHHHH UHHHHHHHHHHH!! Yells Tarzan, or perhaps David Yates, as he must be getting pretty frustrated at trying to get his post-Potter project of the ground by now.
Initially he was going to direct a small-scale drama starring Emma Watson and Stanley Tucci but was forced to drop out due to ‘personal reasons’. He then hovered around an adaptation of The Stand, before last summer finally touching down on Edgar Rice Burrough‘s Tarzan and casting True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard as lead. (With strong rumours Jessica Chastain being eyed for Jane.)
But the vibe isn’t good in the jungle; Warner Brothers have put a halt to the project by stopping production. Allegedly, it was the budget of the movie what made the studio feel uncomfortable. Other recent projects with Warner Bros. with leads attached have also been abruptly paused, such as Arthur & Lancelot and Akira.
Even Disney‘s The Lone Ranger felt the sting leading to director Gore Verbinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp agreeing to take pay cuts.
So the future of Tarzan remains uncertain, however it’s reported the project could be picked up again in 2014.
