The first series of HBO’s True Detective was a huge hit for the American premium cable channel, being critically acclaimed both across the pond and over here after it was broadcast on Sky1.
The series starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as the lead detectives on murder case throughout the south of the US. The dark and complex plot along with the gripping performances, made True Detective another classic for HBO alongside the likes of The Wire, Six Feet Under and Deadwood.
Ever since the series ended and the duo announced that they would not be returning, speculation has been rife over who would be replacing them for the second run. Although nothing has been confirmed by the channel, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch have both been linked to the roles.
Both actors have had previous experience with TV before, albeit fairly contrasting shows. Farrell was discovered in the nineties Irish drama, Ballykissangel and Kitsch broke-through on Friday Night Lights.
