Chernobyl Diaries (Official Trailer)

Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli brings us The Chernobyl Diaries, check out the official trailer!

A month after we received the news that this film was no longer to be called The Diary of Lawson Oxford we bring you the trailer for the newly named Chernobyl Diaries.

This is not, as you may think, a sympathetic, heart wrenching drama, centred around the Chernobyl disaster. Instead this is the latest horror from Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli. The film sees a group of friends embarking on some sort of extreme tourism trip to the Russian city of Prypiat, the abandoned home of the Chernobyl plant workers who deserted the city after the disaster in 1986.

How could anyone create a horror from this harrowing story I hear you ask? Weeeelll lets just say that this supposedly empty ghost town…isn’t that empty after all. What follows appears to be a multitude of, jump clean out of your seat scares, preceded by painfully suspense filled build ups. I defy anyone to deny that an empty city is a naturally sinister environment and this movie clearly utilises this location to it’s full effect.

I feel obliged to mention however  that given the amount of people who have died as a result of this tragedy, and the countless others who’s health has, and is been damaged by the effects of radiation over two decades later. As well as the fact this disaster is still relatively recent history (we are not talking Nazi Zombies here). It does seem to be in questionable taste to make a film using this premise, intended to entertain not educate…but that’s just me.

Although Oren Peli’s name is the most recognisable to be attached to the movie, it was actually directed by Fight Club and Let Me In Fx man Bradley Parker.

The cast for this picture includes: Jonathan Sadowski (the 2009 Friday 13th), Devin Kelley (TV’s The Chicago Code), Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek), and singer Jesse McCartney.

The Chernobyl Diaries will be released in the US and some parts of Europe on the 25th of May, there is however no Uk release date as yet. Check the trailer below.
