With Finding Nemo 2 and Monsters University all ready and waiting for the perfect release dates; Pixar have not been short of potential sequels! However, we have had our reservations about Pixar’s reputation when it comes to sequels. Let’s face it, the Toy Story trilogy was amazing but the sequel to Cars was pure road kill. But with The Incredibles making a huge success all the way back in 2004, we suspect a sequel may be blooming.
Original director Brad Bird has not disregarded the thought of a revisit to the dysfunctional superhero family. In fact, when chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, the director stated “I’ve been thinking about it. People think I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world. I am stroking my chin and scratching my head”.
Bird then went on to add, “I have many, many elements that would work really well in another (Incredibles) film, and if I can get ’em to click together, I would probably wanna do that… I have many different films I wanna make. It’s like a big airplane hangar and I have different projects on the floor; half-assembled in my brain… You kind of have to move on the ones that are willing to pay for and the ones you’re most excited about.”
So, what we have gathered from that little snippet of information is that Bird is thinking of allowing The Parr family to reunite and save the world from destruction once more… just not yet! Maybe some deeper development into Samuel L Jackson’s Frozone will crop up in the sequel? Who knows?
