The sizing of mannequins present in fashion stores has commonly sparked criticism in society. La Perla, a luxury clothing lingerie company, found itself in the middle of a mini Twitter frenzy on May the 12th. This was due to a picture of a mannequin with visible ribs in the company’s store in Soho, New York being tweeted by a shocked citizen.

Micheal Rudoy expressed his dismay in his tweet,”How does #LaPerla think ribs on a mannequin is ok?! @SethMatlins“.  Co-founder of Feel More Better, Seth Matlins was tagged in the tweet by Rudoy.

Feel More Better is an organisation that, “fights against things like so-called cultural ideals and norms that may be neither ideal nor normal. Things like the images, messages, attitudes and expectations that help shape how so many women and girls feel about and look at themselves“.

The picture was quickly noticed by fellow angry tweeters and La Perla were quick to reply that the mannequin and any others similar to it would be promptly removed.

The mannequin photographed has been removed from the store and will not be used again by any La Perla boutique. We are in the process of redesigning all La Perla stores with a new concept image and the mannequins that are currently displayed in our US stores will no longer be used,” said a La Perla spokesperson via Twitter.

“We appreciate and value everyone’s comments, thank you for bringing this to our attention.
