The Ugly Truth

Fashions the ugly truth has been revealed. Read more here.

After almost 4 month since the tragic fire in the Bangladeshi Tazreen factory, it’s owners have surrendered and been imprisoned. The inhuman owners of the clothing factory Delwar Hossain and his wife Mahmuda Akter were rightly refused bail as the fire killed 111 of the factory’s workers. During the blaze, the employees were told to ignore the fire alarms that had been ringing and soon the entire building was alight.

Warrants were release at the end of the year although there were no efforts by police to arrest the couple who were roaming free. After begin sent to court, 100 angry protestors sought the compensation of their dead loves ones and so the security guards and managers of the factory were convicted for arson, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and death by negligence.

Amongst all the calamity there was good as the devastating event brought to light the terrible working conditions of these workers who are paid the lowest wages in the world. It’s terrible that so many lives were lost for the media to capture the attention of label whores who pay over three figures for these garmets while the workers are paid less then 2. The fashion industry maybe full of beauty but it sure has it’s ugly side.
