Disney have created some fabulous films in the past and the future looks to be full of Disney’s fabulous creations. Disney are soon to be releasing a new blockbuster, Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie. When we heard the Hollywood a-lister would be taking the lead role it was hard to contain our excitement, but now we’ve found out that Stella McCartney is designing a childrenswear collection to compliment the film we cannot contain our excitement entirely.

Many of us have grown up with Disney and McCartney is no exception. “Growing up I was always a huge fan of Disney, as was my mother, and I grew up watching all the films just like most kids did,” said McCartney.

“When I was invited by Angelina Jolie to visit the film set, I jumped at the chance. When we went to the set, Angelina was in full costume and all the kids were terrified of her, but at the same time it was absolutely brilliant.”

The collection embodies all things magical and cute, with eight designs for biys and girls aged between four and 14. The designs are based on characters from the film, Maleficent is of course McCartney’s favourite design:

“She’s a baddy with an unusual sense of goodness inside of her and I wanted the Maleficent dress to embody both the cheekiness and strength of character that she possesses,” said McCartney. “We used gory visuals – like the bats – that have been feminised and made beautiful by foil printing on tulle.”

McCartney is a successful clothing designer and launched her popular childrens line in 2010. Designing for children is personal experience for McCartney who is a mother herself. “Because I am a mother, designing kids clothes is something personal to me and seeing my kids wearing something I’ve designed is very fulfilling,” she said.

“With the kids’ collection we really try to focus on great quality with an accessible price point in styles that appeal to both parents and kids. It needs to be realistic, the kind of clothes children actually want to wear and have fun in with the quality and functionality is important to parents.”

We imagine there will be queues of parents at stores waiting to purchase this collection for their eagerly awaiting children.
