Supermodel Naomi Campbell is about to follow in her close friend Kate Moss’s footsteps by designing her own clothing line.
Speaking to the Mail Online, Campbell said: “I’ve been approached by a few brands to design a line for them, it’s something that interests me and I’m in negotiations.”
The internationally renowned supermodel is close friends with numerous designers, including 80’s iconic designer Azzedine Alaïa, Roberto Cavalli and the pair behind Italian Fashion House Dolce & Gabbana, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
But despite her highflying fashion pals, Campbell may choose to instead take a leaf out of Kate Moss’ book and collaborate with the high street, as Kate Moss has done with Topshop in 2007 and 2014.
Following a lengthy career as a model since the age of 15, Campbell has also had many other career ventures, from writing a book, recording an r&b album to being presenting her own modeling TV contest The Face.
So why is now the right time for Campbell to take on designing you might ask? At the Vogue Festival earlier this year she hinted that design was indeed in her future, saying that she had often thought of taking the creative path but was worried she would make herself a rival to designers she liked to work with as a model.
“Now I’ve grown up a bit more… I will design not just for women of colour, but for all. I see there’s lots of things that are not there that I feel that I’d like to have, and so I’d like to share it with everybody.”
