The newest member of the Versace team is none other than London-born rapper MIA collaborating with Versus for their newest collection which was inspired by Versace counterfeits. Donatella Versace said “I adore the energy of the street, so when MIA proposed to expose the issue of counterfeit Versace pieces by creating a collaboration inspired by these items, I thought it was an incredible idea.”
The collaboration between Donatella and MIA came as a surprise, even though MIA has of course been spotted front row of the Versace catwalks, but it was the theme of the collection which really took our attention. Donatella says “The collection represents all that I love of the new Versus Versace: it’s fast, it’s noisy, it’s brazen and it blends the world of music with that of fashion. I can’t wait to see it worn.”
The collection will feature 19 pieces and will finally be available for purchase from October 16th, including both women and menswear, with t-shirts and silk shirts, jersey dresses, printed jeans and “military-inspired outerwear.” MIA spoke to WWD about the collaboration saying “The theme of counterfeits, of those that produce and sell them has always been part of the culture of MIA,” and adding “When I was contacted by Versace, it seemed a great idea to invert the circle. Versace’s designs have always been copied, now it’s Versace that copies the copies, so those that copy must copy the copies. So this will continue.”
