Florals, pastels and flowy fabrics are some of things that we imagine for summer. Obviously we have all those festivals, days out at the beach and summer parties we have to go to, but sometimes a bit of girliness is needed, and that’s where ClubCouture comes in. ClubCouture started off as any other fashion business, but then worked their way up to become an internationally selling online retailer. We caught up with co-founder and designer for the brand Flora Lim to talk about the brands inspiration and their new capsule collection Flair. Here’s what she had to say…
HTF: Hi Flora! First off, how did you and your team come up the brands name ClubCouture?
CC: It just somehow hit my partners and I at the same time in the beginning, and we all liked it immediately. I guess it essentially summarizes our vision for our label – to be a fun-loving fashionable club for all ladies alike.
HTF: Tell us, what was your inspiration behind all of the past collections and current products?
CC: We draw inspiration from everything around us, but largely from our travels – nothing thrills and excites us like the colourful cities, beautiful beaches in this amazing world we live in.
ClubCouture is focused on emerging contemporary concepts, blending lead designer our own personal airy laid-back style with beautiful feminine palettes.
HTF: You sound like you’ve done a fair amount of travelling. Where have you and your team traveled to, and which is the most memorable place where you found the most inspiration?
CC: We have travelled to various part of Thailand (since our move to Bangkok) – Chiangmai, Pai and even crossed the border to Laos and Cambodia. It’s amazing how one country and its neighbouring countries can be so similar yet so different in their cultures and way of life. We are also drawn to big cosmopolitan cities such as New York, Seoul, Tokyo and are planning an upcoming trip end of this year to Europe.
HTF: ClubCouture have released the new collection, Flair which is quite girly and summery. How did you come up with the collection, and what was the inspiration behind it?
CC: ClubCouture Flair is a relatively new addition to the ClubCouture family. A new Flair capsule collection is released every season, reflecting our unique interpretation of the current trends and has been well-received by consumers and peers alike.
HTF: The brand is already internationally known which is pretty great! So how do you see ClubCouture in the future?
CC: For now, I’m REALLY excited to let you know about the launch of our sister label Vanilla Mood! While ClubCouture leans towards a sleek sophisticated style, Vanilla Mood is all about saccharine goodness, pretty florals, soft flowy fabrics – basically everything sugar & spice! You can see our Vanilla Mood styles at www.facebook.com/shopvanillamood
HTF: That’s brilliant news about the new sister label, Vanilla Mood! What made you decide to launch a new label, and what inspiration is there behind the label?
CC: Vanilla Mood was launched because we wanted to curate something really sweet, girly and fun but it wouldn’t fit quite into the style of ClubCouture hence we decided to start something new, reflecting the style of our lead designer Sononui
HTF: Lastly, what other collections will be coming out as Autumn/Winter 2013-14 is coming up and what themes will be included?
CC: Our upcoming Flair FW collection will be very minimalist chic, think monochrome colours, basics with a twist and very model-off-duty.
