Director of Palo Alto, Gia Coppola is the perfect choice for a super girly and playful photo shoot for Urban Outfitters. She is the latest photographer to lens a look book for the company. “Summer Blues”, despite the title, is anything but sad. Featuring Coppola’s friend, artist, model and feminist Petra Collins, the photographs were bound to be a dreamy account of an idyllic summer.
The narrative behind the shoot follows a group of students, portrayed by Petra as well as Heather Boo, Jake Freilich, Sidney Williams, Eliel Ford and Ben Watanabe, as they prepare for the summer break. As you’d expect from Urban Outfitters, the imagery has a vintage, warm, sentimental and postcard-esque aesthetic.
The L.A. director captured the effortlessness of Urban Outfitters’ retro-tinged staples. From over sized dungarees and ripped denim to cute swimwear with slogans like ‘Surf’s Up’ and breezy blouses, the photographs represent the picture-perfect summer. Taking you back to those teenage years where all you had to worry about was what outfit to wear before you headed out for a day in the sun with your friends, Cappola has captured the collection beautifully.
Here is a behind the scenes video from the shoot. We can’t help but wish we were part of this group of good looking and fun-loving friends, they look like they’re having a great time!
