Fashion Week AW14-15: The New York Low-Down

Find out all about New York Fashion Week here!

Having spent the last few months wrapped up warm in cosy knits, the fashion team at Hit The Floor are relishing the opportunity to dress up in girly pastels and get our spring on. Move over February we’re looking ahead to March, lusting over the ice cream shades that we’ll soon be wearing to our favourite hot spots. Pardon the pun. But there’s one thing holding us back. Fashion week, of course.

Geared up for another iconic season, the event is delving into the richness of the future by showcasing fashion houses’ finest autumn/winter 14-15 collections. Forget bare pins and sandals. Instead envisage outlandish jumpers, floor length dresses and many, many hues of black.

The occasion may have put our summer plans on hold, just for a minute or so, but one things for definite next season is sure to be a good one, with rail after rail of statement autumn designs that will be hitting the high-street sooner than we think.

Kicking off this year’s showcase was the finely tuned chic of New York City, who have already seen the likes of  BCBG Max Azria create ripples in the “vogue” waters with their new collection.

Know for their layered tailoring and androgynous cuts, Nicholas K debut their new line on February 6. A muted collection that tantalised fashion-fanatics over the duo’s signature flair for winter, the collection featured a dark colour palette of chocolate browns and burgundy reds and, as expected, the label’s trademark hue; black.

Also on the same day was Katie Gallagher. There’s nothing better than seeing a young, fresh designer give fashion the youthful flair it truly deserves and the 27 year old did just that. Stark black and alluring burgundy dominated the colour scheme with a fitting focus on texture. Velvet was layered on velvet, crafting 90s-esque combos ideal for the upcoming season, and figure hugging dresses went the extra mile with subdued yet striking sheer panels.

Still to come are Big Apple favourites Lacoste and Diane Von Furstenberg, who will be showing collections on February 8 and 9, as well as the infamous Michael Kors, DKNY and Zac Posen. Closing the week on February 13 will be the iconic Ralph Laurent. No doubt eager to show off their highly anticipated collection, the all-American brand are planning one show that’s not, and we repeat not, to be missed.

As for the next instalment, once New York Fashion Week draws to a close style mavens galore will be jetting off to London, Paris and Milan for even more fruitful runway bliss. It’s fashion, darling.
