Burberry opening their Shanghai flagship store is more than a decent cause to celebrate and on Thursday, they certainly brought with them the most extravagant show Shanghai has probably ever seen.
Flying Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse in especially, immediately set the bar high for the extravagant runway show, but that was just the beginning. The show welcomed British musicians Paloma Faith and Marina and the Diamonds, alongside Ed Harcourt gracing the stage with an especially written track, ‘You Can’t Stop The Rain’, in celebration of Burberry conquering the Chinese fashion market.
The show saw dancers draped in Burberry’s signature trench coats dancing with umbrellas, while the digital backdrop fused photos of Shanghai with London’s Regent Street, in which their global flagship sits proudly. The backdrop also gave a subtle nod to their growing beauty product sector as silhouettes applied make-up gracefully.
With any show, technology is a key component and Burberry kept up the tradition working with WeChat to allow the audience to swipe, tap and shake though a selection of memorable Shanghai and London skyscapes.
As for a finale, Burberry gave us all what we always dreamed of: Cara Delevingne flying around Mary Poppins-style on a zip wire over the audience. That’s what we all wanted, right?
