Now that the weather is beginning to warm up I can’t help but think about summer: where I want to go on holiday, events going on in London and which suntan lotion I’m going to buy. And, as if thoughts of chilling on the beach with a cocktail (or five) weren’t enough to get me going, I’ve recently discovered some great new songs that will no doubt help me – and, hopefully, you – to get in the mood for all the impending BBQs and park adventures.
To celebrate the start of the British Summertime I’ve put together a small list of songs that are getting me ridiculously excited for my favourite season. I’ve included a mixture of nostalgic 90s/00s anthems, easy indie numbers and songs from new artists that truly deserve to be on this list and every other summer playlist going.
New artists include:
MisterWives – an indie pop band with a lead singer who sounds like a cross between Lorde and Ellie Goulding – only with more of an edge. They have a really warm, fun vibe and fit perfectly into this selection of summery tunes.
Eliza and the Bear – a London-based band who have recently performed on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and have been played on famous rock and indie station Radio X. The band’s song, Friends, was also featured in the Bulmers cider advert back in 2014.
Zara Larsson – Swedish singer-songwriter Zara has recently released new material, and her latest song ‘lush life’ is destined to be amongst your most listened to this summer. With an effortlessly powerful voice at the age of just 18, Zara is destined for a great future in music.
