Whoever said Christmas is 'the most wonderful time of the year' obviously didn't have any financial issues. As much as we'd love to buy everyone the loveliest, chicest, most impressive gifts for Christmas, the reality is much more, er, realistic. What kind of person can afford to spend £45 on a silicone phone case, anyway? Certainly not us.
This is a gift guide for all of us who have ever walked into the Pound Shop and wondered whether some bubble bath with the foreign packaging is a viable gift option for your mother-in-law. This is a gift guide for people who have better things to spend their money on than Christmas gifts. Better things like beer and takeaways.

Smashbox’s Step by Step Contour Kit is popular for a reason – and if you buy it from Boots you get a free contour brush thrown in, which is pretty awesome – but perhaps only suitable for make-up fanatics. If you want to give your little sister a taster of contoured living, Seventeen’s Define & Conquer Contour Kit is a good place to start. It contains a simple instructions card so you know where to put the powders (unlike Smashbox, there are only two powders included) and how to do it, and there’s a nice big mirror inside so you can touch up your cheekbones on the go. Obviously it’s not as great as some of the market’s pricier alternatives but, as we said, it’s a good place to start for contour virgins.
