Find out what we think are the top 10 pop albums of 2013 HERE!

Top-Pop-2013Well 2014 is upon us, and when we look back on all that has happened in the world of pop for 2013 it’s definitely been an exciting one! It’s been full of comebacks, controversy and lots of competition, and we wouldn’t have expected anything less!

It’s been hard to narrow down but here’s what I think are the top 10 best pop albums of 2013!

Robin_Thicke_-_Blurred_Lines_(album)

10. Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

Now love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Robin Thicke is the man behind one of the biggest and most selling songs of 2013 with ‘Blurred Lines’. The summer hit is featured on Robin’s sixth studio album of the same name, which has a mix of 70’s style disco style songs with catchy beats, as well as more soulful r’n’b tracks. Although the album features some popular tracks including ‘Give It 2 U’ and ‘Feel Good’, the successful lead single ‘Blurred Lines’ is definitely the best.

9. Katy Perry – Prism

Katy Perry returned this year with the follow up album to ‘Teenage Dream’. ‘Prism’ showed Katy in a more vulnerable light, and has the perfect mix between floor fillers and ballads. Stand out songs include ‘Birthday’, ‘Unconditionally’,This Is How We Do’ and let’s not forget lead single and summer anthem ‘ROAR’.

One Direction - Midnight Memories

8. One Direction – Midnight Memories

Everyones five favourite lads were back this year with their third album ‘Midnight Memories’. Ironically the best song from the album has to be the lead single ‘Best Song Ever’ which was teamed with an equally impressive music video, and second single ‘Story of My Life’ followed as being just as catchy. The band definitely went in a new direction with this album, with it standing out as being a bit edgier and more mature. Have the boys finally become men?!

alive jessie j

7. Jessie J – Alive

Jessie J released her second studio album this year titled ‘Alive’ and just like her debut ‘Who You Are’, it’s an accomplished pop record, showing off her powerful voice and song-writing talents. Like Katy Perry’s it’s also got the right balance between the party anthems including ‘It’s My Party’ and ‘Sexy Lady’, to the more laid back ‘Thunder’ and ‘Breathe’. An impressive album, a versatile artist and a great role model.

6. Lady Gaga – ARTPOP

2013 was all about Lady Gaga’s new album ‘ARTPOP’. Everyone was eagerly waiting for November 11th to arrive, the date the album was released. Latest single ‘Do What U Want’ is perhaps one of the best tracks of this year, with lead single ‘Applause’ also being extremely catchy, as well as ‘VENUS’ and ‘G.U.Y’ being other favourites. Again another very creative album from Gaga, but perhaps there was too much hype surrounding it for it to live up to, which is why it’s not any higher on our list.

Gavin Degraw Make a Move

5. Gavin DeGraw – Make A Move

Gavin DeGraw and his country-folk influenced album certainly stood out for us this year. While he still may be unknown to many, this is definitely an album to check out. His melting voice, teamed with impressive melodies and let’s not forget his relatable song lyrics is the perfect combination. It’s hard to pick a favourite as all the tracks are so likeable, but ‘Best I Ever Had’, ‘Finest Hour’ and ‘Different For Girls’ are our top choices.

4. Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience

Another anticipated album release of this year was from Justin Timberlake and when he made his comeback he graced us with not 1 but 2 albums! ‘The 20/20 Experience’ features some of the most sophisticated and captivating pop songs including ‘Suit and Tie’, ‘Mirrors’ and ‘Tunnel Vision’. And let’s not forget his amazing dance moves that feature in the accompany music videos. Welcome back Justin!

3. Haim – Days Are Gone

Haim unveiled their debut album this year and it certainly impressed achieving number 1 in the UK charts. They are a likeable and very talented American trio who offer something refreshing with this strong and versatile album, which is full of relatable lyrics, charming melodies, and captivating hooks. We’re fans of most tracks, but are ultimate favourites are ‘The Wire’, ‘Forever’, Don’t Save Me’ and ‘If I Could Change Your Mind’.

2. Miley – Bangerz

Sticking out tongues, twerking and foam fingers, can only mean one thing, that’s right in second place is Miley Cyrus. The American singer has definitely matured with her fourth album, with it contributing to some of the best songs of this year with ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’, as well as breaking numerous world records for her music videos. The album definitely reflects its title perfectly, as it’s full of infectious songs, with all tracks having the potential to be hits. Some lyrics may be a bit bizarre: “driving so fast bout to piss on myself” and “all the way in the back with a tree on my lap”, but just like Miley, it’s definitely an unforgettable album.

Beyonce_album
1.    Beyoncé – Beyoncé

It was one of the biggest surprises of the year, and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying it was one of the best. The self-titled visual album from Beyoncé  featured 14 tracks and 17 videos, and broke the record for fasting selling album. It’s a very personal and emotional album from the phenomenal singer, with stand out tracks including: the explicit ‘Partition’, ‘Heaven’ which acknowledges her miscarriage, and ‘Blue’ which even features vocals from her own daughter Blue Ivy. Only Beyoncé can release an album without any promotion whatsoever and still manage to break records. But that’s why she’s Queen Bey.

So there we go, that’s the verdict on the top 10 pop albums of 2013! Do you agree?! It’s definitely been a great year in pop for female artists! Let us know who would make your top 10 in the comments!
