People seem to have a love/hate relationship with Valentines Day. Whether you’re newly single or just don’t buy into the whole ‘cards and flowers’ thing, we’ve decided to compile of a list of our favourite songs that embrace all things independent and anti-Valentines.
Miley Cyrus – FU
Love her or hate her, Miley has quickly becoming the definition of rebellion, which makes this song a perfect choice for our anti-Valentines playlist. An amazingly angry revenge song that we can all imagine chanting to a least one person…
Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Bit of an obvious one, but necessary all the same. There are some who use Valentines Day as an opportunity to attempt to rekindle romances, regardless of the fact you never want to see them again, so here’s a song to shout at them while kicking them out of the door.
P!nk – Blow Me One Last Kiss
The perfect track about calling time on a rubbish relationship. P!nk embraces a ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude that we all need to embody on the 14th.
Cee-Lo Green – F*ck You
This one is pretty self-explanatory – enjoy screaming this at the top of your lungs.
Whitney Houston – It’s Not Right
A classic track about calling out a cheating ex, Whitney Houston (along with an army of angry women!) encourages us all to put our foot down and assert a bit of authority.
Jason Derulo – Ridin’ Solo
Here, Jason lists all the amazing things about being single. The perfect song to listen to on V-Day to remind yourself why going out to a club with your friends is sooo much more fun than being soppy!
Kelly Clarkson – Stronger
One of the worst things about Valentines Day is that there are those who feel that they are the only person in the entire world that don’t have anyone to share it with. Kelly Clarkson’s track ‘Stronger’ reminds us that being on your own for a little while really isn’t a bad thing: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger/Stand a little taller/Doesn’t mean i’m lonely when i’m alone.”
Beyonce – Me, Myself & I
There really isn’t anything to say about this, except it’s sang by Queen Bey. Enough said!
Kelis – Caught Out There
This song usually tops the list of any non-romantic playlist, and for good reason. What other way to describe our hatred for Valentines than through a song that involves lots of angry screaming?
Aretha Franklin – Respect
You can’t have a playlist about being independent and relationship-free without ‘Respect’… you just can’t.
