Festival season is here again and we’re already getting excited to see some of our favourite bands at festivals like 2000 Trees. There’s much more to a festival than just the lineup though, and Trees is no exception. In no particular order, here are the 5 things we’re most excited about, besides the lineup of course…
This might seem like a strange one – after all, who knows for sure what the weather will be like? But the 2000 Trees organisers seem to have made some kind of deal with the weather gods as the last few years of the festival have all seen glorious sunshine throughout the weekend. As long as this trend continues, we can’t wait to soak up the sun in the gorgeous Cotswold hills whilst watching awesome bands. Of course, this is England so we’ll still bring a waterproof and wellies just in case!
No festival is complete without plenty of places to buy food to keep you fuelled for a weekend of live music. Festival food is notoriously expensive, but the folks at 2000 Trees do a good job of making sure you get your money’s worth by teaming up with some of the best independent food traders in the country. We’re spoilt for choice, with burgers, pizzas, pies, crepes, bhajis, donuts, ice cream and much more on offer (with vegan/vegetarian options available of course). There’s usually something new every year too, so we’re excited to see what new delicious treats await us this year.
The Forest Sessions
Is there anything better than watching your favourite band perform up close and personal? Of course not! That’s why the Forest Sessions at 2000 Trees are so special. Throughout the weekend, several artists perform stripped-back sets on a tiny stage in the middle of a forest glade. This is a unique opportunity to see a new side to some of your favourite artists, in a gorgeous intimate setting. It’s also a great place to chill out in the shade and maybe even discover some new music. Some highlights from previous years include The Xcerts, Jamie Lenman and Frank Carter (watch a clip above). Our most anticipated forest set this year will be the mighty Enter Shikari, who are no doubt the biggest band to have ever graced this humble stage. We have a feeling we’ll have to turn up early to get a good spot for that one!
In the mood for something a bit silly? Want to show off your creative side? Then look no further than the 2000 Trees fancy dress competition. Every year there’s a different theme but you don’t need to stick to that – let your imagination run wild! A winner is picked at the end of the festival, but it’s mostly just a ton of fun seeing all the crazy ideas people come up with. Previously we’ve spotted Jon Snow, Jesus and Ainsley Harriott among many others, and even a group who went as the entire cast of Crash Bandicoot. We have no idea what to expect this year, but it’s sure to be hilarious.
The ‘Night Life’
When the main bands have finished for the evening, it’s time to head back to our tents and get a good night’s sleep, right..? Wrong! The night is only just beginning. For those who still want to party, there’s a silent disco that rages on until 3 in the morning where you can don a pair of headphones and sing and dance until you drop. The playlists are always full of bangers so this is bound to be a good time. If you’re after a more relaxed end to your evening, you won’t have to look far to find someone strumming away on an acoustic guitar for a late-night singalong. Artists like Frank Turner and Arcane Roots are among those who have played ‘secret’ sets on one of the little stages dotted around the campsite. So, keep your eyes peeled and you may end up seeing something amazing that you’ll be telling your mates about for years to come.
