Unless you’ve been living under a rock this week, you’ll have heard at least something about the on-going feud that’s happening between Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian. If you’ve managed to keep up with all the drama that’s gone on – we salute you! However if you feel a little confused, we’ve put together all the best bits you need to know so that you can look like a pop culture king/queen in front of your friends in the pub tomorrow.
To begin, let’s quickly take a trip back to 2009 *insert wobbly screen effect and dreamy music*. Taylor Swift is happily accepting her MTV Video Music Award for “You Belong With Me” when Kanye West decides to interrupt her, telling everyone that Beyonce should have won the award for “Single Ladies.” We all remember this, right?
Fast forward to 2015 – Kanye is now happily married to Kim Kardashian and he and Taylor seem to be best of friends. She even presented him with his Vanguard Award at the VMAs, and he sent her flowers! Cute.
But because we now live in 2016, a year in which nobody seems to be able to stay friends for more than five minutes, the pair’s friendship hit the rocks again when Kanye released his single “Famous”.
Once the world had heard its controversial lyric “I feel like me, and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous” things started to kick off again. As fans, friends and family ran to Taylor‘s defence; Kanye defended himself on Twitter:
All good? Of course not. Taylor‘s publicist then insisted in an official statement that she never heard the lyrics and was only told he wanted to promote the song on her Twitter. Hmmm! And just to make sure everyone knew about her dislike for the song, Taylor threw some major shade in her Grammy‘s acceptance speech, saying “there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.” Ouch!
So where does Kim Kardashian come into all this, I hear you ask? Well, this is where you need to get your popcorn ready. The whole argument returned to the forefront when E! released a teaser clip of an upcoming Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode last week. In the clip, she addresses the beef and accuses Taylor of playing the victim.

Did she stop there? Of course not! First, she tweeted this:
Wait it's legit National Snake Day?!?!?They have holidays for everybody, I mean everything these days! ?????????????????????????????????????

Then urged people to add her on Snapchat, where she posted Video evidence of the phone call during which Swifty gave her permission to Kayne. Wow. The only line you need to know about from the call is this one from Taylor:
Yeah. I mean, go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue-in-cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice!
Did you think Tay Tay would let this one go? Oohhhh no. Her response – a screenshot of a note on her phone, obvs, this is 2016 remember – explains that yes, she DID know about the song but not specifically about the ‘bitch’ lyric.
That moment when Kanye West secretly records your phone call, then Kim posts it on the Internet. pic.twitter.com/4GJqdyykQu

Can we just appreciate the number of likes and retweets this has for a moment! It turns out everyone loves a bit of drama, who knew?
When some of the biggest names in popular culture have a barney, what do other celebrities do? Get involved of course! All sorts of people have been commenting on the beef ever since. Demi Lovato low-key ‘liked’ a bunch of tweets supporting Kim K, while Chloe Grace Moretz took a different approach:
Everyone in this industry needs to get their heads out of a hole and look around to realize what's ACTUALLY happening in the REAL world

And then we have Chris Brown:
Thanks for that Chris, but tbh no one cares what you think.
We get the feeling that this is feud isn’t over just yet, but no matter whose side you choose, you’ve gotta admit that “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative” is one of the best put-downs of the last decade. We will be using it as much as possible from now on. Cheers, Swifty!
