It was recently announced that Miley Cyrus will host MTV’s Video Music Awards with the award’s categories and nominations revealed too.

The VMA‘s is a yearly award MTV put on to celebrate artists music videos and they nominate videos that they think are the best from the past year and those that have made the most impact. The awards are voted by the public on the VMA website.

Below are the main categories and our predictions on who we think will win a moon-man award.

Video of the Year

  • Beyonce – 7/11
  • Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
  • Kendrick Lamar – Alright
  • Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
  • Taylor Swift feat. Kendrick Lamar – Bad Blood

There is no denying that Taylor Swift has dominated music within the past year and ‘Bad Blood‘ has for sure been the video that has made the most impact on her ‘1989‘ era. The video that contains her showbiz friends from Ellie Goulding to Hayley Williams had a huge build up until the video was released. Taylor has a lot of loyal fans, and with the VMAs being a public vote award – it will be no shock if Taylor picks up the award of the night.

Artist To Watch

  • Fetty Wap
  • FKA twigs
  • George Ezra
  • James Bay
  • Vance Joy

All five of these artists deserve their place on the ‘Artist To Watch‘ list of nominations since they are all a talented bunch with so much more to show but Fetty Wap for some reason seems to be the name that stands out the most. With several hits in the charts right now and not even an album released yet, he really does seem like the artist to watch out for.

Best Rock Video

  • Arctic Monkeys – Why Do You Always Call Me When You’re High?
  • Fall Out Boy – Uma Thurman
  • Florence + The Machine – Ship To Wreck
  • Hozier – Take Me To Church
  • Walk The Moon – Shut Up And Dance

If any of these acts won this award, it would come to no shock really since there isn’t a stand out video that screams winner but Walk The Moon has created a super catchy song with a very vibrant 80’s video that seems like a winning choice.

Best Male Video

  • Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
  • Kendrick Lamar – Alright
  • Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
  • Nick Jonas – Chains
  • The Weeknd – Earned It

Ed Sheeran or Mark Ronson have this one in the bag it looks like it. Ed Sheeran is likely to go home with at least one Moonman award and the ‘Best Male‘ award seems pretty promising.

Best Pop Video

  • Beyonce – 7/11
  • Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
  • Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
  • Maroon 5 – Sugar
  • Taylor Swift – Blank Space

Taylor has been this years biggest pop act and her video for ‘Blank Space‘ has a wopping over 1 billion views. It seems like an obvious prediction if you went by YouTube views and Taylor has a history of picking up a lot of awards at ceremonies.

Best Collaboration

  • Ariana Grande & The Weeknd – Love Me Harder
  • Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang
  • Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
  • Taylor Swift feat. Kendrick Lamar – Bad Blood
  • Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth – See You Again

If Mark Ronson doesn’t win an award for ‘Uptown Funk‘ at all this year then he has truly been robbed. Both the song and video is easily one of the best collaborations in years. Taylor might snatch this award, but Mark and Bruno truly deserve it.

Best Female Video

  • Beyonce – 7/11
  • Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do
  • Nicki Minaj – Anaconda
  • Sia – Elastic Heart
  • Taylor Swift – Blank Space

Yep, TayTay again..

Best Hip-Hop Video

  • Big Sean feat. E-40 – IDFWU
  • Fetty Wap – Trap Queen
  • Kendrick Lamar – Alright
  • Nicki Minaj – Anaconda
  • Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth – See You Again

She may be pissed that her video isn’t nominated for Video of the Year, but she will probably win ‘Best Hip-Hop Video‘ so that’s better than nothing. Make her proud Barbz!

Video with a Social Message

  • Big Sean feat. Kanye West & John Legend – One Man Can Change The World
  • Colbie Caillat – Try
  • Jennifer Hudson – I Still Love You
  • Rihanna – American Oxygen
  • Wale – The White Shoes

It’s no secret that Rihanna has the biggest fan base out of anyone in this category therefore based on just judging it on public vote, it seems she will likely pick up this award. Plus, her fans are annoyed that ‘B*tch Better Have My Money‘ never got a nomination so they might be super motivated to make her win the only award she’s up for.

The award show has already cooked some beef on Twitter betweens nominees Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. To watch all the drama unfold watch this year’s MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday 30th August.
