10. Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Asunder, Sweet and Other Distresses

The Canadian masters of post-rock return with Asunder …, another offering of their cinematic blend of harmony and discord. Featuring two ‘real’ tracks and two droning soundscapes, from the laid-back drum shuffle intro of ‘Peasantry (or Light! Inside of Light!)’ to the beautiful violin vamp on ‘Piss Crowns Are Trebled’, this is a timely reminder of what sheer orchestral brilliance sounds like when placed on the ‘rock’ spectrum. Some of their best work to date.
