Hit The Floor Magazine is proud to introduce a rather fresh new band from South-East Kent (that is in England for our friends overseas) called Melrose, who are made up of Connor Parr (rhythm guitar / lead vocals), Michael Tracey (lead guitar / backing vocals), Oliver Fitch (bass), and Ajay Pepin (drums) from ex-Call Off The Search fame.
Having already garnered critical praise for their debut EP ‘Let Me Remind You‘ which was produced at Emeline Studios in Whitstable, Kent by ex-Call Off The Search / Slingshot Around The Moon brainchild Ian Sadler in 2012, the band were chosen by BBC Introducing as their favourite track of the week with ‘Summer Weather’. They went on to grace the Local Heroes section for Kerrang! Magazine, and played and supported the likes of fast-rising US stars The Story So Far ,and the amazing alternative rock quintet Scholars, it is safe to say that they have had a more than fruitful introduction to the UK alternative rock / pop-punk scene.
We caught up with guitarist Michael Tracey in a brief interview to ask about how they would describe their sound and their musical influences…
“The band started as an idea between Connor and myself in February 2012, we found members and starting rehearsing and writing in September the same year.
We would describe ourselves as upbeat, heavy and melodic. Yet we tune our guitars low and heavy use electronics in our music. The combination seems to work well for us!
Our influences are mainly contemporary easycore/pop punk bands from Europe and the USA such as Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, Can’t Bear This Party, Carousel Kings, Radio Feelings, Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, and A Day To Remember.”
The band are already beginning work on their debut music video to be recorded this summer as well as their debut album. They will also be touring throughout spring/summer of 2013 before embarking on a European tour later this year with a band who are due to play the coveted Groezrock Festival in Belgium later next month!
