Hull. It’s not where you’d expect to find Katy Perry at the start of festival season.

But isn’t that the magic of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend? The event kicks off summer in a quintessentially British way — by hosting a free, extravagant music festival in areas notoriously neglected by touring musicians.

The two-day blowout has been everywhere from Hackney to Norwich and is now destined to grace Burton Constable Hall near Hull on the 27th and 28th May.

The BBC always bag an eclectic lineup for their shows, and this year they’ve outdone themselves once again.

Here are five artists we’re most excited are on the bill: [/tps_header]

You Me At Six

These British rock giants have recently re-emerged with their fifth studio album Night People, the first from the band since 2014. Big Weekend is the first of a host of festival shows for You Me At Six, and it isn’t difficult to understand why they’re regulars on the circuit.

The band’s brash, anthemic tunes are made to be belted back from a muddy field.
