WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF FANTASY ALBUMS WHERE MUSIC FANS ARE PUT TO THE TEST TO DECIPHER THEIR ULTIMATE COLLECTION.

The rules are simple(ish): they can’t repeat an artist, and to just make it that little bit more interesting they have to use the same track number from another album. For example, Track 1 could be the opening track of the incredible Stone Roses’ debut ‘I Wanna Be Adored’. Track 2 could be Blur’s ‘Song 2′ – you get the idea.

This month’s fantasy album has been curated by Virgin Radio’s Eddy Temple-Morris.

Eddy Temple-Morris has been presenting on television and radio for over two decades as well as playing bass in the indie band Losers. He is currently presenting on Virgin Radio on mid-morning on weekdays after leaving XFM where he presented The Remix show for 15 years.

TRACK ONE: ‘BLADERUNNER MAIN TITLES’ – VANGELIS

“My favourite film and the most perfect soundtrack ever. Whenever you listen to it, the day you first saw it, or last saw it, or fifty years from now, it sounds like the future. What an intro.”

TRACK TWO: ‘RISING SON’ – MASSIVE ATTACK

“The sexiest album ever made and this is the darkest and moodiest track on this work of true production genius. The Daddy G part still gives me goosebumps. This sets the tone for our journey.”

TRACK THREE: ‘MINERVA’ – DEFTONES

“Awesome in the classic sense of the word. The line “brings my knees to the earth” is, again, a thing of awe, describing awe, in an awesomely restrained way.”

TRACK FOUR: ‘ SOMEONE GREAT’ – LCD SOUNDSYSTEM

“This is a life-affirming triumph from a disaster. Made more powerful by the thought James Murphy has to relive the moment he was told his mum was dead at every LCD show.”

TRACK FIVE: ‘CLOSER’ – NINE INCH NAILS

The greatest producer of sound in the world today and he has been for decades. Now making the greatest film scores in the world today. This is when we all realised he’s a genius.

TRACK SIX: ‘NANCY BOY’ – PLACEBO

“The greatest compliment I can give is that I cried at a Placebo show, just overwhelmed with emotion, mostly from the fans when the band stopped playing. I’ve never seen anything like it. Placebo fans are truly special people.”

TRACK SEVEN: ‘BLACK HOLE SUN’- SOUNDGARDEN

Chris Cornell was one of the nicest rock stars I ever met and had the most perfect rock voice. So much emotion in the way it resonates. I was obsessed with him to the point of copying his beard in 1998.”

TRACK EIGHT: ‘LEAVE THEM ALL BEHIND’ – RIDE

“This is the one I like to play air bass to. What an intro. This is a band in perfect sync, every part, brilliantly written and played.”

TRACK NINE: ‘SUNRISE (ALWAYS COMES AROUND)’ – UNKLE

“Something from my album of 2017 with Leila Moss from The Duke Spirit on vocals. Always loved her voice. This is a special song from a very special album, James Lavelle’s first proper solo record and a triumph.”

TRACK TEN: ‘STAY’ – TEARS FOR FEARS

The most beautiful new song by one of the greatest studio bands of the 1980’s. It comes across like a gorgeous balearic deep house tune. The journey is over now but there’s a surprise around the corner...”

BONUS TRACK: ‘BEING A GIRL’ – MANSUN

Six by Mansun, with the benefit of hind site, was the most indulgently musical album of the nineties. Eight-minute album versions of songs that twist and turn with delight and surprise. This is the penultimate track and a fantastic example of this band’s musicianship…Andy Rathbone’s drum part is under-rated brilliance.”

Any fantasy album that includes Mansun, Tears For Fears and Placebo! This has to go down as a personal favourite. This is a collection that has an undercurrent of darkness but will deliver with pure ecstasy.
