Indie/ emo outfit Bay Faction have a very unique style that oftentimes feels slightly juvenile, with lyrics like “I said I loved her, but it was over Facebook,” but the results are incredibly raw songs written with more honesty than most bands you’ll come across. On their own Facebook page, we see their childish humour shine through, citing their genre as “post coital” and listing an award for “best dressed (22 yrs & counting!!)” With the band teasing a release called ‘Are You In The Mood?’ for 16th February, we thought what better time to get you hyped up for whatever it is they have in store.

A little low-down on who in the world Bay Faction are – the band are a Boston based trio, having met through Facebook while all attending Berklee College of Music, before releasing their self-titled record in September of 2015. When listening to one of their tracks, you won’t find any elaborate metaphors or excessive rhyme & rhythm – their songwriting style offers a lot of detailed lyricism but in a more life like manner. It feels a lot like storytelling between mates. Don’t just take our word for it, this live session they did for “Sasquatch .22” explains exactly what we mean.

Vocalist James McDermott has a very distinct voice, his lazy slurs fit their anecdotal songs perfectly. As their songs all lack unnecessary frills, it means most of them clock in at about 3 minutes (or less!) but even in such a short span of time, Bay Faction do really well in combining groovy drums and bass beats, clear guitars and broody vocals. There never seems to be that one “stand out” chorus moment, but rather their relatability rings clear throughout and we want to sing along all the way through. Whatever ‘Are You In The Mood?‘ may be – be it a single, EP or new record – we’re excited for some new material from the band.
