A trailer has gone up online for the new thriller starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, Before I Go To Sleep.

Adapted from S.J. Watson’s novel, the film follows Christine Lucas (Kidman) who after a trauma is left unable to recall each previous day from the moment she wakes up. Believing she is 27, she struggles to come to terms with the reality of being 40 and married to Ben (portrayed by her co-star Colin Firth), a man she does not recognise, whilst having to cope with flashes of whatever caused her current mental state. With the help of Dr. Nash (Mark Strong), they seek to uncover the truth behind what has caused her suppression – but his motives might not be what they seem…

On research for the role Kidman told The Independent “I watched a number of documentaries where people do have this psychogenic amnesia. The idea of actually having this is horrifying”.

“Someone described it as like losing their soul, because you lose your identity, you lose actually what you are and that’s really chilling, and it’s also sad.”

Watch the trailer below starring the Oscar-winning actors Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth.

Directed by Rowan Joffe, Before I Go To Sleep will be released to theatres in the UK on the 5 September, 2014.
