The Green Mile is another Stephen King book transferred onto the big screen . Released in 1999, the movie has been dubbed as a “prison fantasy drama” and stars Tom Hanks as narrator Paul Edgecomb and Michael Clark Duncan as John Coffey.
The story is told by Hanks‘ character, a former death row prison officer who is now in a retirement home, who describes his experiences when introduced to inmate John Coffey. Coffey had been wrongly sentenced to death for the murder and rape of two women, he is innocent and harmless, but also possesses supernatural powers which he uses to bring a sense of justice to the world.
Written and directed by Frank Darabont, the movie received 4 Academy Award nominations (Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Duncan), Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay) and is renowned as a movie great.
