All you Star Wars fans can breathe easily now, the cast for the upcoming reboot directed by J.J. Abrams has now been announced.
There have been a few surprises like the casting of Andy Serkis (will he be himself or will he be a impersonating a CGI character?) and Attack the Block star John Boyega, but there is confirmation that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are continuing the stories of Luke, Han and Leia, reportedly set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The return of Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker as C3PO, Chewbacca and R2D2 has also been confirmed.
In an official statement Abrams had this to say: “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Oscar Isaac who acted in the Coen Brothers’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis‘ was only on the rumour mill this morning, but has now been confirmed to have a part here and will be joined by another co-star from that production, Adam Driver. Irish born actor Domhnall Gleeson and British actress Daisy Ridley, whom viewers might know from Richard Curtis’s ‘About Time‘ have also been announced. One casting choice that made us curious is Max von Sydow. The legendary actor is surely set to have a standout role.
The film is set to be released on December 18, 2015.
Have any other cast suggestions? Do the new characters look Jedi-like enough for you?
