Fox and Hasbro have recently been reported to have struck a deal in order to bring the trading card game Magic: The Gathering to film.

Fox has called on Screenwriter/Producer Simon Kinberg to produce the adaptation and help the Magic: The Gathering name develop into a worldwide franchise on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. Towards the end of last year, Kinberg’s company Genre Films signed a first look deal with Fox.

The highly popular cult game, which was introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, allows players to take part in battles between wizards known as “planeswalkers” using various magic spells and creatures to defeat their opponents.
