Lead guitarist and founding member Chris Walla bid an emotional farewell to 17 years with Death Cab For Cutie at Rifflandia Festival in Victoria, British Columbia.

Video footage has surfaced on Stereogum of the last song of the band’s set, ‘Marching Bands Of Manhattan’, which ends with the band in a group hug and frontman Ben Gibbard declaring “Thank you so much for the last 17 years, Chris”.

Walla will appear on the band’s upcoming eighth studio album, which will see the light of day sometime in early 2015.

He wrote: “I will miss being a quarter of this band, and will support whatever course Death Cab for Cutie chooses from here …I am profoundly grateful to Ben, Nick, and Jason, for the experiences that define my adult life. Truly grateful, beyond words. Thank you.”
