It’s been ten years since the original version of Ocean Avenue came out and my how time flies. The band are back to celebrate this anniversary with a special acoustic version of the album.
‘Ocean Avenue Acoustic’ does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s the album in entirety with the perfect acoustic sound of the original pop-punk version. Every song transcends fantastically to acoustic while still sounding as powerful and energetic as the original whilst the maturity and edge to this album really showcases what the band can do.
Yellowcard are veterans in what they do and bands who can pull of an all acoustic album definitely deserve cheers in our eyes: especially taking an iconic album so well loved. We really weren’t expecting to love it as much as we do!
From the opening soft riffs and powerful vocals on ‘Way Away’ we are automatically struck with the nostalgic feeling of our teenage years. The songs sound just as vibrant and colorful as they did ten years ago and most tracks sound virtually the same in their transcend to the acoustic side.
Some tracks have had their own 2013 twist added to them, mainly for the better. ‘Ocean Avenue’ has been slowed down partially and although it may seem to lose some of it’s urgency it still makes us want to stand up and sing at the top of our lungs. Every track on the album manages to mix the right amount of freshness and nostalgia to remind us why we still love Yellowcard.
Listening to this album just cements in our minds why we loved it in the first place. And as if we weren’t excited enough for the bands acoustic tour of ‘Ocean Avenue’ this album just makes us even more so!
