Simon Cowell has revealed that he is willing to let the current series of The X Factor be the last if necessary.
It comes as a result of Cowell confirming that if viewers get bored of the show this year, then he will axe the show completely.
“In this day and age when you look at the overall numbers, which are down, we’re very lucky that we’re still on air at the moment. If I’d been asked about the future of the show ten years ago I’d never imagine we’d still be making it in 2014.”
The show launched in 2004, and it gained a peak audience of more than 17 million viewers in the 2010 series finale.
Cowell has also vented anger at the BBC for scheduling Strictly Come Dancing at the same prime time slot as when ITV will air The X Factor, accusing them of starting a a head-to-head clash for ratings.
