Guillermo del Toro is really pushing his latest film Pacific Rim to the absolute limit. We’ve seen a lot of action based trailers showcasing massive human controlled robots whooping some alien butt. But now, del Toro and his marketing team have decided to take another approach. With a gentle, melodic soundtrack underpinning Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost’s inspirational musings, this trailer really highlights humanity’s need to come together and save the world from utter destruction. Check out the final trailer for Pacific Rim below.
The narrative focuses on a world sick of being defeated by alien invasions. Instead, an international government have decided to create gargantuan robots controlled by soldiers in order to fight off the impending intergalactic monster apocalypse. The monsters in question are called Kaiju, named after the Japanese monster genre of the same name and the human robot hybrids are known as Jaegers, which means “hunters” in German. It seems that del Toro wanted to portray a global influence in his film; with all countries coming together to fight one known evil… and we say he’s achieved it!
Starring an international cast including Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi, Heather Doerksen, Diego Klattenhoff and Charlie Day, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim will be released in 3D July 12th!
