Three years ago, Will Smith and Jay Z got together to come up with an acting career starter for Smith’s at the time 9 year old daughter Willow. A-Ha they thought, and came up with the idea of remaking Annie; the story about a ginger orphan who gets adopted by billionaire Oliver Warbucks. However, due to lack of funds at the time the adaptation had to take a bit of a back seat. But it looks like Sony’s dreams have come true as they now have the funds to make the little orphan’s dream a reality!
However, due to the slow process, Willow Smith is now too old to play the youngster so Sony will be keeping their eyes and ears to the ground in order to find a little girl with mutant lungs. Can’t be that hard to find right?
Eat Pray Love’s Ryan Murphy was originally considered as director for the concept but has since dropped out. Now Easy A/Friends With Benefits director Will Gluck has decided to take on the project and inject his fun-loving style into the otherwise cheesy narrative. If everything goes to plan, Annie will be released in Autumn 2014. It seems like it isn’t a hard knock life for the singing orphan after all!
