It’s been 63 years since Ian Fleming wrote the first Bond book, ‘Casino Royale’, and 54 years since the first film, Dr No, hit the silver screen. In that time there’s been a whopping 24 films, 27 Martini cocktails, 73 kisses and 1,392 murders.
However, even after all this time, excitement about the 25th Bond film and the mystery surrounding who will play the lead continues to captivate the general public. Even though Bond has been accused of snobbishness and misogyny in the past, and his violent techniques cause a myriad of collateral damage, we still just can’t get enough of Bond, James Bond.
So to celebrate our favourite fictitious spy, here’s 007 reasons why we keep coming back for more.[/tps_header]
The James Bond franchise is famous for including some of the most sought after cars in the world and incorporating them into white-knuckle car chases.
Pierce Brosnan was chased in a Aston Martin V12 Vanquish in ‘Die Another Day’. Roger Moore escaped capture by jumping an AMC Hornet X over a river in ‘The Man with a Golden Gun’. And the climactic chase in ‘Casino Royale’ won a Guinness World Record for the number of cannon rolls in a car.
These cars and their chases allow us to live vicariously through the secret agent. Short of joining MI6, none of us will ever get to drive an Aston Martin DBS V12, let alone flip it seven times and live to tell the tale.
